Week 69 – Shopping – first time in 12 months

Football is over for another year – I have been wearing my Geelong (CATS) gear all week to make the most of it.

This week started of with more exercises and more of those loud “ahs”– Jill has been down to the netball courts even though it has been very windy and into our gym to make up for the lost time. She has surprised me, she was walking a single netball court with the crutches and then resting, on Sunday it was 1.5 courts at a time (total of five) by Thursday she was doing 2.5. I told her it was the wind blowing her along. She has been doing her voice exercises, a combination of Vocastim and Voice. She needs reminding to speak loud. Friday was different, Beth arrived and reminded Jill she was going shopping, off we went to Coles and with the aid of a shopping trolley she walked around the supermarket for about half an hour – This is the first time in a supermarket since the fall last October 2006. This was a major step forward – she also signed her name as she had to pay by credit card. She was totally exhausted by the time we got home. Although after lunch and a rest she was back in the gym. Her goal is to repeat the shopping – a promise she made to Beth.

We have had one of those weeks that we could do with out – I went up to check on Mum on Monday morning and she had not had a good night – full up with the flu. I came back on Tuesday morning and the hostel nurse suggested going to the hospital and an ambulance was called about 11am. I followed it to the hospital and Mum spent the next few hours having x-rays and blood tests. She had fluid on the lungs and was told she was to stay – we had to wait for a bed. Finally it was decided to send her to Wangaratta Private Hospital about 7.30pm, so a long day was finished. She has spent 3 days in hospital and arrived back at St Catherine’s on Friday morning. Only to be told that she was confined to her room for 48 hours so that the bug was not released to the general residents. She just wanted to go for a walk so Sunday will be great for her.

Not to be out done my sister Pat and Keith set off for a week away at Lake Tyers. Pat was not feeling well and after seeing a doctor at Lakes Entrance was transferred by ambulance to Bairnsdale and then to Cabrini Hospital in Malvern – she had large gale stones. After an operation to remove the gall bladder, she spent a couple of days in ICU and can look forward to a couple of weeks or so stay in hospital to recover. If anybody would like to talk to her – ring her on (03) 9508-1222.

We have had a few visitors this week Aunty Jean and Joan (another CATS supporter) had tea with us. Allison came over and spent a couple of days with us, Jill really enjoys her company and Chris arrived home yesterday for an over night stay. Nicole is doing a course for three days and he would have been home alone. That is why this blog is being done on Sunday morning.

See you next week on the net.
