Week 70 – another milestone passes

Jill has continued those loud “ahs”, exercise and walking at the netball courts. The cold windy days have made the walks uncomfortable. It is hard to imagine it is 12 months since Jill had her fall and fractured her sacrum. We are still continueing to over come the problems it created.

We received the report from the speech clinic this week and Stacey contacted us with the follow up appointment – November 9th . Jill has been reading a speech paragraph – The Grandfather Passage – which incorporates all the speech requirements to improve clarity, volume and punctuation.

The Grandfather Passage

You wished to know all about my grandfather. Well, he is nearly ninety-three years old; he dresses himself in an ancient black frock coat, usually minus several buttons; yet he still thinks as swiftly as ever. A long, flowing beard clings to his chin, giving those who observe him a pronounced feeling of the utmost respect. When he speaks, his voice is just a bit cracked and quivers a trifle. Twice each day he plays skilfully and with zest upon our small organ. Except in the winter when the snow or ice prevents, he slowly takes a short walk in the open air each day. We have often urged him to walk more and smoke less, but he always answers, “Banana oil!” Grandfather likes to be modern in his language.

I have found some other passages on the net – Jill is getting sick of Grandfather. She can recite it from memory.

Last week Jill promised Beth she would go shopping again before the next visit – Tomorrow is the day (Sunday) fingers crossed.

The other members of our family are improving – Mum has settled back into the routine at St Catherine’s and we are expecting Pat home from her hospital stay this weekend. They will both have to take it easy for a while.

We have finally had the reversing camera fitted to the Jeep and caravan and it certainly makes backing easy. I can now back directly up to the tow ball in one movement, not the 4 -5 attempts it used to take. The have installed the cameras very neatly and the monitor is located behind the drivers sun visor. I am going to install another hand rail opposite the bed to make getting out of bed easier for Jill – Jill’s comment is “I don’t need that”.

Peter and Lorna suggested we take the van out to Gentle Annie Caravan Park near Whitfield. They have a permanent cabin there and tell me it is great out there this time of the year. I will see if I can talk Jill into it as it will give us a break from the house.

I am early tonight , Jessie and Jake have not appeared.

See you next week on the net.
