Day Thirty Three – Typhoon season

We hear the weather back in Oz is wet. Shenzhen weather is being affected by a typhoon somewhere. Last night we were given a light and thunder show and this morning torrential rain.
We had a reasonable night everybody slept soundly but were awake at 6am. Being Saturday things are quiet at the hospital, Mary still cleans in the morning and the Doctor makes their rounds. Elizabeth came in and said that our rehab was at the same time 4pm but no massage. We had a visit from Wayne & Bill early and met with Val in the corridor. They all had good nights after the stem cell injections. Bill tells he thinks Babs is a bit more aware of her surroundings and her arms are not as stiff.
Jill had been quite bright early but still had a slight headache, so we gave her a couple of Jon’s pills to help. She layed down and slept for most of the morning. The weather outside was not that pleasant but we decided to visit Macca’s and get some lunch. This was Chris’s first venture onto the streets. We headed up Nanshan Boulevard to the traffic lights opposite Macca’s. Crossing with the light you need to watch traffic turning into Nanshan rd as they have right of way and just toot their horns at you. I decided to show Chris SEG Electronic Store. He was impressed and I think he is keen to return with more time to look. Back to Macca’s, except the heavens had opened. On the footpath under an umbrella was a lone street vendor selling umbrellas. We bypassed him in our run to Macca’s. Hoping that the rain would stop. While we were being served a young Chinese child said “Good Morning”, “Good Bye “and “See you later” in very clear English and smiled at our response and disappeared. With our order in hand we moved out side to face the rain. I decided it was worth getting slightly wet to buy an umbrella. I had soon parted with 25RMB (I didn’t even try to bargain). We then ventured back into the traffic, almost across the street and the lights changed and the traffic moved in our direction so Chris with his hand raised like a traffic cop solved this situation. Under our umbrella we got back to Nanshan hospital and up to 1923. Chris was intrigued by the moving sign in the entrance. I believe it shows the cost of the various treatments here at the hospital.
Jill was still on the bed but at least the head was feeling better and we had the Big Mac & Cheese burgers we had purchased. Grace dropped in to see how Jill was feeling after the Stem Cells. We told her of our experience at Seg Electronics she told us of a much larger complex which is about 30 minutes away by taxi. She said that you can buy almost anything even the parts to make your own cell phone. That is probably a must before we head home.
Mid afternoon and Rehab is calling. Jill is still feeling the effects of the headache and appears very tired but still does her rehab under the watchful eye of Chris. From there we went into Voice. While Jill was being hooked up I took Chris around to see Bill and help with his computer. Back at voice rehab we have formed a waving acquaintance with a Chinese chap who has had a stroke and is having rehab. His left leg & arm are affected. To day he has his wife, 2 daughters and son in-law with him. We have graduated to 1st name basis His English name is Jack. His elder daughter can speak some English and when I asked her name she told me she has no name – meaning no English name. I cannot pronounce or say her Chinese name. Jack can speak Russian but only odd words of English about the same as my Chinese. I told him we were from Australia and he said something and then made a hoping motion with his hands and was obviously meaning Kangaroos we both laughed. We will see him again on Monday as we have rehab at the same time every day.
Back in 1923 Jill wanted a Spider and Chris had found a lime Fanta so with a Magnum without chocolate a spider was made. Chris arrived back to our room unable to help Bill as the items he had purchased required software but he had not received any.
We still had to make a trip to Rainbow for groceries, the rain had stopped and we were on our way. Another excursion across the street at the lights. The amount of people in the shopping centre was almost unbelievable and the noise of talk is extremely high. We got all the items on Jill’s list and a couple of extras. Chris took a couple of photos with his phone to show what we were seeing.
We decided to have our meal down at level 1 this evening to get Jill out of the hospital room. We met Kath & Marian at the restaurant and Wayne ordering tea for Robyn. After tea we headed back to our room with desert in our hands. Some ice creams from the Supermarket next to the restaurant
Jill is still tired and has headed to bed to watch a DVD with Chris while I type away. I just looked in and they are both asleep.
I think it is time to head the same way – see you tomorrow on the net.

    Good morning,
Pat where is your comment?? I enjoy reading it as much as Dad’s diary. Well it’s still raining, but now a very fine mist 41.2 ml since it started, we are hoping for 50 ml, by tonight.
Hope Mum’s head is feeling better today, and that if it’s not pouring rain you can go for a small venture in China.
    Love to you all.

Bit late this morning but it is still raining ,we have had 25ml[an inch in my gauge-I’m improving I can convert to mls. sometimes]. Well what a buzz !A double dose of diary and Macca as well. Mum rang to say Alison had called saying you may be on. It was wonderful–you were a bit emotional old boy–but you did a great job.I hope Jill’s headache has improved. Will her last injection be IV or spinal. It has been a long road but all good I’m sure.We are going out to the King River Cafe for lunch today for Myrtle’s 70th birthday. So this morning is farm jobs and when we get home start organising this new workshop.Yesterday Michael & Carol and Col Gamble packed, loaded ,shifted ,and cleaned. The skip bin is nearly full .Must go and do my share of the work–some bulbs to plant.
    Looking forward to more news.
    Love you all heaps
    Pat

  4. Hi. it is interesting to read the comments from the “country” folks. The talk is all about rain. Yes, we got good rain too yesterday but would love more. We went to Melbourne yesterday to see The Sydney dance Company. Amazing dancers though I don’t think I will take Barry again.

Paul and Tamara were the losing bidders at an auction yet again. They are getting a bit despondent.

Jill, did you eat all of that enormous steak? That should get those Chinese soldiers moving? Not long to go now. What time does your flight get in on your return? We missed you on Macca this morning. Damn.

Barry is at a landcare meeting presenting the Treasurer’s report which I had to type!!!
    Love, Margaret
