Week 309-313 “Away from home”

Four weeks have passed since our last entry. The first couple of weeks were busy with appointments – Doctors visit started with flu injections – the nurse asked if we have a reaction last year , that we may have a similar reaction – none other than a red mark which disappeared in a few days. Jill was again measured for the wheel chair, and we had another visit from the Aged Care assessment team. They have arranged a carer to come into our house to be with Jill when I go into hospital for a day procedure on May 11th. Jill also has had a couple of visits to the dentist to have some repairs carried out – She was very brave. We had a visit to Pat & Keith’s for lunch and to collect a couple of bags of fire wood to take to Eildon for our camp fire.

The caravan had it’s final check and load up before heading to Eildon for Easter. We headed of just after lunch on Wednesday – arriving mid after noon slightly behind the others. Weather was looking good with some rain over the weekend forecast. I though I have everything packed but when Jill wanted to use the toilet, I discovered I had forgotten the most important item – Jill’s Gutter frame walker which helped her rotate and move the length of the van. We persevered over night but we decided to drive home on Thursday morning to get the frame. Left mid morning for the two hour drive home and arrived back at 3pm. The traffic was heavy – every second car pulling a caravan, trailer or camper. We were stopped at Yarck for a breath test by the police. The road was closed in both directions . The hoist in the Jeep works great although Jill is insisting that she can still get out of the Jeep into the wheelchair – but that is becoming much more difficult. Without the vehicle hoist, wheel chair and the Braun caravan lift trips like this would not be possible.

The others started to arrive during the afternoon and Riley arrived on Friday morning.  It was great to have all the family altogether once again. This kept Jill smiling and being entertained. The weather cooled down and we had several rain showers. Late nights around the camp fire with lots of laughter and stories. Again the fire was alight for early morning frost. Fishing was a waste of time – always the wrong time or something as the fish were not on the bite – even at the trout farm. Easter Sunday saw lots of Easter Eggs – Riley’s first that he will remember – he loves chocolate. Like his grandma.

Monday came quick and our family started to head for home. Allison and Chris left on Tuesday and by Wednesday the only ones left were Jeannette, Gavin and us. We decided to stay on for a few more days as the weather had improved but certainly cooled down. On Thursday we drove to Eildon for lunch and returned via the scenic Skyline road. On Friday we went to lunch at the Eildon Marina to Aqua bar & Cafe – great meal, great company and beautiful scenery. Sad to say everything must come to an end and we packed up for our drive home on Saturday. Arriving home about 3.30pm Jessie met us at the front door . She has as usual been spoilt by Lorna and Pat.

Washing all done – van cleaned up – a few things to be attended to over the next few weeks as we prepare for our next trip away to Hervey Bay in July.

Jill’s just had her breakfast and is ready to go to the shower

See you soon on the net

    Hi Mac and Jill,
I’m a 58 year young woman who lives in the State of Michigan in the U.S.A. I was diagnosed with sporadic cerebellar ataxia 8 years ago. My neurologist doesn’t know why I have it as there’s no known family history. It effects my balance (I use a cane as of fallen many times), dexterity (my writing/printing is effected), speech (slurred) and swallowing (I cough alot and must chew my food throughly or risk choking). I used to be quite atheletic so I’ve had to adjust to my life-style. So far my neurologist doesn’t see any signs of MSA-C or MSA-P.
I want to tell you Jill that you are an inspiration to me as I keep up on your blogs. I too have a grandson I adore and another precious baby on the way. My husband is a god-send like yours, so supportive and helpful as are my children and extended family. Keep fighting Jill as you have so much to give! You have truly made a huge difference in my life!

    God-Bless
    Cindy
