Week 329 ” Home at last”

We arrived home about 2pm on Monday – Jill was all smiles and was thrilled to be home.  We sat in the kitchen enjoyed afternoon tea – coffee & muffin. The effort to be ready and get home took its toll and it wasn’t long and she had dozed off. We have a few weeks before Jill goes back for an x-ray to make sure the break has healed. Then possibly back into hospital for 2 weeks of intensive physio. We ate dinner and about 8pm the two PCA ( Personnel care attendants) arrived and with their assistance we transferred Jill form the wheel chair to the bed – removed clothes then another transfer to the  bed to the toilet / shower chair. Then the final move back to bed. The PCA’s left and I finally organised Jill and once she was comfortable we turned on the TV. Again it was not longed before she started to doze off. I decided to fit the CPAP mask and she was sleeping quite soundly . This was the first time in 10 weeks that we had slept together and I had to get used to the noises from the CPAP machine and a totally new noise from the air mattress – the compressor was relatively quiet, the bed it self creaked and groaned as the air moved from chamber to chamber – so Jill did not develop pressure sores. There was several times when I put on the lights to see if Jill was moving – but it was only the mattress. Finally at 6am Jill took off the mask and said it was time to get up – I think she thought she was in the hospital.

After breakfast she was waiting for the arrival of the PCA who was to help get her to the toilet and wash her. Showers are Monday, Wednesday and Friday so only a sponge wash today. We had some trial and error manoeuvres as we got Jill from bed to toilet to bed and finally into the wheel chair. Finally back in the kitchen for morning tea and lunch. About 1.30pm the PCA arrived back just in case she needed to go to the toilet. Not required. The next visit will be at bedtime. She has gone to sleep in the wheel chair.

We are expecting a physio trained in lymphatic massage and bandaging at 5pm to check Jills legs and measure them for stockings.

We had the gardener arrive this morning to do the annual pruning of the roses and anything else that needed cleaning up.  Certainly looks much better.

Jill is asleep and I decided that I had better get the blog up to date.

See you soon on the net
