Week 98 – “Less we forget”

Our first rain for April fell over night – only 8mm. Those leaves I will have to rake up have started to fall. I actually washed the car on Saturday morning – just to encourage the rain.

Our week started with a bang – up early Monday and our first appointment was at the Radiography department of North East Health – Wangaratta Base Hospital. Jill was ushered into a change cubical and had to put on one of those gowns that lace up from behind ( she loves those) and then into the X-ray room. The young practitioner set Jill up for a chest X-ray and followed this up with a series of head shots for her sinus area. As I was standing watching from  relative safety (from the X-rays) behind a screen, I remembered the x-rays taken of Jill’s knees in Nanshan Hospital China. I stood beside Jill ( to support her)while they took several photos of Jill’s knees, while they donned lead covered vests and stood behind the screen.

Tuesday was another early rise as we had another appointment for Jill to have a respiratory test. She had to blow through a mask while they recorded the results on a computer. This was fairly difficult as she had to empty her lungs and then breath in. This took several takes, a bit like a movie i.e.: Take one; Take two, Take three ……take eight. We finally left and headed home for morning tea.

We received notice of our next appointment for a sleep study before we left – May 20th then the results from that take 3-4 weeks so we are back with the specialist in June – a bloody long wait. The rest of the week was filled with exercises at the netball courts, Jill’s gym, Crazy massage machine and spa.

I mentioned Allison and Chris were headed off to celebrate their anniversary – well that was put on hold as Allison kicked her foot on the suit case while packing and unfortunately hurt her toe – and after more x-rays she discovered what she already knew – she had broken two toes. Very sore and not a lot you can do about it.

Last week I mentioned the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) from Christine’s Blog. I noticed a further article on her Blog that was very pertinent to what we all go through while we are searching for a cure.

The History of Medicine

2000 BC “Here , eat this root”
1000 BC ” That root is heathen, Here, say this prayer”
1805 AD “That prayer is superstition. Here, drink this potion”
1940 AD “That potion is snake oil, Here, swallow this pill”
1985 AD” That pill is ineffective. Here, take this antibiotic”
2000 AD “That antibiotic doesn’t work anymore. Here eat this root…”

We spent early Friday listening and watching the Anzac Day parade on TV. I have always said I would go and watch the dawn service – a must do next year. It certainly is extremely interesting listening to the stories of the old diggers and their families. It is hard to imagine the terrible times they had to experience.Well it is still raining and Jill is awake and I guess want’s some breakfast.

See you next week on the net
