Week 83 – Remembering your past

This week seems to have flown – We have spent every evening in the pool – cooling us down for a good nights sleep. Jill has continued to do all the exercises she could do in the pool. Beth arrived on Friday and after a discussion on Christmas and New year she had Jill do some standing and sitting exercises out of a kitchen chair – with out using the arm supports to stand. She asked Jill about her swimming pool exercises and suggested a few more – using her arms as well as legs. She also suggested jogging while holding the edge of the pool. Jill was so excited about trying this exercise she could hardly wait until our evening swim. To my surprise she not only tried it while hanging on to the edge of the pool and my hands but decided she would do it unaided – she was pretty successful so it is definitely added to the regime.

While doing my usual web search I came across a Neti Pot which sounds a bit illegal. I remember seeing it on the Oprah Show. It helps with sinus problems. The Keenan family as a whole have always suffered and as a child I remember having my sinus passage syringed out and having the pathway drilled – it sounds barbaric these days. The Neti Pot allows you to flush warm salt water through your nasal passages. I went onto EBay and after a tense bidding war I purchased one for $24.50 and it was delivered very quickly. Both Jill and I have used it and it’s a change to wake up with no coughing and spluttering.

I have gone back to looking at the family tree on the computer – have not done anything but add births and weddings in the past twelve months. I looked at Jill & my entries and noticed the information I had added about my self – things I remember from the early time of life in Carisbrook – living in shop as a small child – pouring treacle into the flour bins, going on rabbit drives with an old uncle in his horse and dray, being taught to swear by a bloke that worked for dad. Even the major events such as our house being burn down and moving to Dunkeld with the family and chooks in the car were there. I realised even though I knew most of Jill’s past we had not committed it to paper (computer). We spent the rest of the day recalling little events and memories. Learning to swim at the end of a rope in the Merriwa park swimming pool, Harry (Jill’s dad) had a pole with rope attached to it and the other to Jill and if you didn’t swim you got dunked. I would hate to think what Laurie Lawrence would think about that technique. It has amazed me of all these memories that will be lost if we don’t do something about it. I am going to talk with mum and see what I can document before it is too late. The family tree program, that I use is Family Tree Maker and have found it easy to use. We have also been members of the Genealogical Society of Victoria and often read their news letter and say I must do that.

As you are aware this is now Sunday morning and I am sharing the chair with Jess. Jill has had breakfast – pancakes with Pat’s fresh apricot jam and cream. How’s that for being spoilt.

See you next week on the net
