Week 160 ” Cook or Cooke family History?”

I have tried to avoid passing my cold onto Jill with on avail. Over this past week she has progressively picked up all the symptoms and some extra ones. The reaction with Jill has also affected her balance and she is having severe back and leg pain when she is on her feet. I’m guessing this is related to the MSA as well as the flu. Jill’s has gone straight into her chest and throat. I have her on cough suppressant and Panadol but will see what today brings and see if we can get an appointment with the doctor if things get worse.

Friday brought another milestone in my life – passing the 66 barrier. The kids were coming home but I’ve warded them off – I didn’t want anyone else catching the bug. I had avoided going to see Mum at St Cath’s and finally went in on Thursday. I picked up her new glasses and took them in. Mum was excited to have new glasses; she put them on and took them off, then on went the old ones. Her comment was that she wanted to see which ones were the best. The old ones have disappeared into her cupboard never to be seen again. To match the new glasses we got a new 26″ LCD TV for her. I spent about two hours trying to explain how the remote worked – new numbers and buttons in different places. I said I would take the old set and get rid of it. She immediately said no I may need to watch the old one. However when I arrived on Friday the old set was gone. She had given it to Kitty one of her friends who only had a small TV. She is now fairly confident with the remote as long as she has my hand written instructions.

This week I received an email from an unknown relation – second cousin once removed. Joanne and her husband Mark. They have been researching the Cook- Cooke family – my grand mother on Dad’s side was a Cook (Ann Cecelia Cook). We have exchanged several emails and some information. It has rekindled my interest in Family Tree research. I remembered when we came to Wangaratta in the early 1950’s Dad introduced me to a Nora Cook a cousin of his who lived in Rowan street Wangaratta – She often came into Keenan’s Hardware Corner but I lost contact when I went to Melbourne and teaching. Anybody reading this that has some history related to the Keenan’s or the Cook’s please email me and see where it leads us.

Jess has just climbed onto the table behind the laptop and is looking at me imploringly – Food.

Jill is listening to Macca

We will see you next week on the net.
