Week 137 ” High Temperature and Strong winds”

I’m sitting at the computer with Jake (Jack Russell) beside me snoring almost loud enough to over come the radio. We have certainly had some more warm weather this week and I’m not sure what to expect next week with the forecast for next Wednesday through to Saturday to be 40C +. Jill has been in the pool and doing all her aerobic exercises, as well as getting cool. I am glad for the air conditioning in Jillian’s gym as it was 38C in there before turning the AC on. It took about 30 minutes to bring the temperature down.

We had the Jeep booked in for its 30K service in Bendigo. We packed up pillows and all and went to Allison’s on Wednesday. Jill certainly likes to visit Allison and get away from my cooking. Jeep was serviced on Thursday and ready for pick up just after lunch. While there we noticed a sale add for a corner vanity. Just the item we had been looking for our shower room and a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than we had been quoted. On our way to pick up the Jeep Allison drove me to the place – “Stacks of Stuff”. They have to order in the unit we need and should arrive in Wangaratta late in the week. I am now getting itchy feet to get started on the renovations to the existing bathroom. The fitting of the vanity into the shower is stage one as the main bathroom is going to be out of action for a couple of weeks.

We waited until late in the afternoon to head home, temperature cooled down and the strong wind had subsided. We had heard that there were some trees down following the wind in the Murchison region. As we left Rushworth and skirted the Wangara Basin we came across an area where several dozen trees had been flattened along the road and a couple of old buildings demolished. They had tractors and a grader there cleaning the trees away from the road. Thankfully we had left a little later, we continued on. There were several trees in the paddocks that were blown over for the next 30-40 km. As we approached Violet Town we could see the flashing lights of a police car ahead and assumed some one had been pulled over for speeding. As we approached we could see several cars stopped and ahead of them trees across the road. The police were allowing the cars through, but as there were also some power lines down we were directed away from the road onto a track that a dozer had cleared. I guess over the next 5 km there would have been 50-100 trees down mostly close to the road.

We have had plenty of late nights, watching the Australian Tennis Open each night on TV. There are only a few nights to go.

I must finish as Pat reminded me that I haven’t mowed the front lawn for awhile, when she visited with Mum yesterday.

See you next week on the net
