Week 24 – A moment in time – Jillian’s Gym

Jill’s back in her gym, to my surprise last Wednesday Beth (our visiting Physio) suggested a walk out to the Gym and then after a rest got her to walk on the parallel bars and use the two chairs. Jill has been out there each day since, but has found it tiring and also needs to take some Panamax before she attempts the exercises. This is a step towards her goal of dancing at Chris and Nicole’s wedding in March 2007. Jill has also under encouragement from Beth been down the front steps and down the drive.

We have continued doing the Vocastim – voice stimulation on every alternate day – this is taking some time to regain the lost 4 weeks in hospital. We have also started using the vocal training exercises that came with the Vocastim. These are done in two ways, one while hooked up to the electronic impulse and the other not. We have started with one per day but according to the instructions it will need to be increases to 5-6 per day. The problem we have with the exercises is that Jill listens to a recording and then repeats the sounds , these are in German and even though they are vowels etc they have a German accent and if Jill keeps copying she may be able to speak with a German accent.

Michael came home last Sunday and cut my hair and coloured Jill’s. This is only the second hair treatment we have had since coming back from China so was much needed and appreciated. Over the past couple of weeks I have down loaded a program from the web. www.momento.com.au . MomentoMomento is the photo album of the digital age; a service that transforms your photos in to premium coffee-table photo books. They offer free software to make this possible.
I have attached the preview of the book I have done called Jillian’s Gym to last weeks diary entry and you have the chance to have a look . Sorry you may need a magnifying glass to view it. I will improve on the next attempt.
We are about to attempt getting Jill into the pool – water temp is at 30C + so next week I hope to be able to show a new goal achieved.See you next week on the net.

I have read every word of this blog with interest. I have a condition called paraneopastic cerebellar degeneration – a rare autoimmune reaction to cancer. I have had it since 1999, the cancer is long under control but I am left with cerebellar related things like attaxia & dysarthria. My symptoms are all pretty similar to Jill. I am considering following your path to China. What advice would you offer? Would you do it again?

You’re so interesting! I don’t think I’ve truly read through a single thing like
this before. So nice to discover somebody with a few unique
thoughts on this issue. Really.. many thanks for starting this up.
This website is something that’s needed on the internet, someone
    with some originality!
