Weeks 349-51 “Getting ready for Christmas”

The weeks leading up to Christmas seem to have flown. I look at the calendar and three or four days have gone. The arrival of our new grand child is imminent with only a few weeks to go. Jill has had a few up and down days and I have again called off our physio as Jill was not up to it. My way of picking how the day will  pan out is by the sleep on the previous night and then followed by a dramatic lean to the left although that throws me out sometimes when it is to the right. On those days I raise the support arm of the wheel chair to help maintain the lateral support.

We have finally got the approval to order Jill’s new wheel chair – but due to Christmas it will still be 4-6 weeks. The stedy (standing transfer unit) is another 12 weeks away . We have received an extension to our funding of physio , hire of equipment etc until the middle of February  so it all may work out ok. Jill had the speech therapist here to observe her swallowing while eating lunch. She is going to organise an X-ray for Jill early in the new year.

I have done a few more modifications to the caravan. Improved the storage under the bed and adapted the bed so that we can use the stedy in the van. This is so that we may be able to travel to Chris and Nicole’s for Christmas and then for the arrival of our new one. I am not sure that Jill will be Ok on the day so we play it day by day. The thought that we are preparing keeps Jill positive. She has had me preparing the fruit for the christmas cake – even though she does not like eating it her self. Have you ever seen someone picking out the pieces of fruit of a fruit cake and eating what is left over – believe me it is quite a sight.

Jill has continued to put on weight – the florinef tablets for blood pressure are adding to the problem with the increase amount of fluid being retained. I am frightened to stop the tablets with the possibility of her blood pressure dropping suddenly and letting Jill collapse again and with the chance of breaking another bone. Jill is more concerned with the weight gain than the alternative.

We have had  a couple of outing in the Jeep even though they are visits to the doctor – it allows us to get out of the house. This week end we are going to have lunch with Pat & Keith ( fingers crossed) out at their farm, Keith is going to service the Jeep – first time in 12 months – only driven 5000k. I had new tyres fitted (Cooper At3) this week – first replacement since we brought the Jeep in 2007.  I felt that if we are to tow the caravan I had better make sure everything was Ok.

A range of medical visits to end this week and next- physio every couple of days, district nurse to change catheter , doctor for some repeat proscriptions, podiatrist , blood tests and another doctors appointment will round out things until next Friday. Jill would love to forget about it all.

We received some great Photos of Riley and they have taken pride of place .

Time to get Jill some breakfast as we need to get going – physio due at 11am.

See you soon on the Net.
