Week 323a “Home for an hour”

Jill got excited yesterday when her temporary set of wheels arrived. The wheel chair is fully adjustable – tilt and a raised leg to support Jill’s broken leg. We were able to go for a spin. Out side and then down to the cafeteria – let her decide what she would like for afternoon tea.  When Allison saw the smile on Jill’s face her comment was ” That’s because she is plotting her getaway. This is a faster machine to outrun the nurses”.

The OT came and asked Jill when she wanted to trial a trip home – “Now” was  the answer which was amended to 11am on Wednesday.

I arrived at Jill’s room at 10.30am to find her still sitting in bed – suddenly there was a huge amount of activity – I think they had forgotten. The maxi taxi driver arrived at her room right on 11 and she was still in the shower.  After a few minutes Jill was wheel out of the room and we were away and Jill was loaded into the taxi.

You had to see Jill’s face when we drove up our drive and she even smiled when Jessie was at the door when it opened. The OT made sure we had plenty of room to move the wheel chair around the kitchen, lounge and down the passage into the bedroom. Looks like we may need to remove the push rims from the wheels so that I don’t take off too much paint at the doorways

The hour passed very quickly and the maxi taxi rolled up our drive to take us back to the hospital. Tomorrow we are off home for a couple of hours – over lunch. I will need to cook up something that she would like. The OT mentioned that they may remove the cast on Friday week. This will depend on the results of some x-rays and then some serious physio will begin.

See you soon on the net
