Week 322 “Tears flowed as we missed Riley’s Birthday”

Jill has been confined to her room – she has developed a small pressure sore from sitting in a recliner so they have confined her to bed so that they can get it under control. The bed has an air mattress but the recliner had a special cushion that was supposed to help but obviously didn’t.  As usual Jill is being very strong and refusing to take any pain medication – even Panadol. I keep asking but she says there is no pain. She hates being there and continues to say ” I want to be Home” I told her I was counting and was up to 365 times I have heard that request – not really but it adds some humour to the situation.

I will have to get her a new bunch of flowers to brighten the room as Allison’s box of flowers is starting to look a bit sparse as I have removed them as they dried out.

The transitional Care Package that Jill is under in the hospital ties together the Doctors, Occupational Therapist, Physio therapist and a TCP coordinator and between them they are suggesting that Jill may be better at home – emotionally. They are organising all the equipment and help that we will need and when it is available Jill will be allowed home on a day leave to see how I cope. They will train me here on the hospital over the next couple of weeks and finally release Jill home. The physio,OT etc will then transfer to home. The package is for a 12 week period – fully funded and then if we still require assistance then it is transferred to a Community Based Package or similar.

Last weekend was Riley’s birthday ( actually 29th May) he was 2. The party was on Saturday and just after lunch we were Skyped to see Riley, his friends and family. Jill and I watched him open our presents and I saw the tears start. She just wanted to be there so much. However seeing him so happy also made us smile. We also saw him tonight and were able to say Happy Birthday. he was eating the final piece of his birthday cake – “Lighting” from the movie CARS.
