Week 53 – “Use it or lose it”

First item – we received a comment on last week’s Blog from Shih Kuo. He suffers from MSA as does Jill. Several weeks ago I attempted to make contact with him via his email address – ks@coastcorp.com – but kept getting the email returned. Following the comment I again tried and had the same result. The answer to your question Shih is our contact was with John Hakim and his email address is jon@stemcellschina.com . If you have another email address with which we can contact you please send another comment.

This week has seen improvements in Jill’s infection and we have been able to get back out to Jillian’s Gym each day and hope to get back to the netball courts this coming week for some distance walking. It continues to amaze me that when we are unable to do an activity for any time, Jill is set back a considerable amount. These last couple of weeks walking has been difficult as she has been restricted to the house. I have been told off for insisting that she walk laps with the wheelie walker around the lounge, dining, kitchen and entrance. The distance is about 40 steps according to the pedometer I attached to her. She has increased in the last couple of days to 4 laps and then a rest. I think we got to a total of 20 laps today. The old adage “use it of lose it” is very much part of MSA. The down turns we notice are usually after the inability to do the exercises for any reason. The longer the setback the harder it becomes to go forward. We use our goals to motivate us to keep going – these are for me as well as Jill.

Our carport moved to the next stage this week with the concrete being done this morning. The cold has slowed the setting time of the concrete and it will probably be Monday or Tuesday before I can clean up the driveway. Next stage is finding a bricklayer. I ordered the reversing camera for the Jeep and caravan to assist with hitching up and backing the van. I hope to have it installed this week.

Jill’s sister Jeannette and Gavin are in Kakadu at the moment. They had an eventful visit to Katherine Gorge. Gavin’s mate Macca had a fall and dislocated his shoulder and had to be carried out and taken back to hospital in Katherine for his shoulder to be re set. Having seen our son Michael in the same condition I can imagine the pain he would have been in. Gavin said Macca was OK. The pictures they have sent act as an incentive to keep us motivated to try a trip north.

As I am sitting here Jess has just jumped up on to the arm of my chair and is meowing to me “I am ready to be fed”.

See you next week on the net.
